I had a customer experiencing random runtime errors in IE7.  She would get them while logging into services like webmail, ebay, etc.   The problem was resolved by restoring IE defaults and reseting web settings.  It was a little tricky though, I couldnt replicate the issue for a long time.  Eventually I found it would give the runtime errors when trying to do an online virus scan from bitdefender.com

ATT / Bellsouth Password Glitches

I was recently on site with a customer that had several @bellsouth.net email addresses. They requested that I change the passwords on their accounts, which I did. Then, I had to set the new passwords into their outlook clients. This morning they called me and one of them is receiving email from their main account, whereas the other person with access to the same account is being asked her username & password over and over again. We tried the old password, the new password, caps lock on, and caps lock off. I tried logging into my.att.net using the correct credentials, and the website says the username or password is wrong. We’re had to call att and have the password reset.

What is really funny though is that the one person can get email using the same username / password… It defies logic, but then again it’s a Bellsouth account that’s been merged into ATT.

As a side note, the change password for add-on email accounts function on my.att.net was a big pain in the ass. You have to enter the username / password on my.att.net, then it takes you to a somethingofanother.att.com and asks for the username and password again, then it asks for the password again. At that point you can change one email account password, and then you have to log out and go through the entire process again to change another email account password. It took about 30 minutes to change passwords on 5 accounts.

Not enough server storage is available to process this command

Scenario: You try to connect to a shared drive on a windows xp machine from another windows xp machine and you receive the error below.

“Not enough server storage is available to process this command”

You check the computer you’re connecting to and it has plenty of memory free both ROM & RAM.  You check permissions and you have sufficient permissions to connect…

To resolve this issue, increase the value of the IRPStackSize registry entry on the machine you are trying to connect to.

To do this, follow these steps:

1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
2. Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Parameters

If the IRPStackSize entry is not present in this subkey, follow these steps:
a. Click Edit, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
b. Type IRPStackSize, and then press ENTER.

Note: Type IRPStackSize exactly as I have typed it here.

3. Click IRPStackSize, click Edit, and then click Modify.
4. Select “Decimal”, under “Base”.
5. In the Data Value box, type a larger value (max is 50), and then click OK.
6. Log off the current user and log back on to re-load the registry settings (alternatively you can reboot)

If the problem persists after you complete the previous procedure, increase the value of IRPStackSize more.

Right Click and Print doesnt Print

I ran into a situation where a customer would right click on a group of PDF files and go to print and none of the PDF files would print.  After playing with adobe for a while I managed to make it print one or two of the many files selected to print.  I should mention the printer was an HP 9800.  To resolve the issue I uninstalled the drivers the customer installed from CD and installed the “add new printer wizard” driver file from hp.com.  This particular driver is a scaled down version of the one that comes on CD and does not support some printer functions (such as monitoring ink levels).  Now the customer can select 50 or more PDF files, right click, go to print, and all the files will print.
